okay, you can't just leave us at that... full on details, missy. And I expect you to make contacts into their lighting and rigging, for me.

Alrighty so: we got tickets to go see Varekai and NICA was all "Hmm...we know someone who works with Cirque and is working in that show...why don't we try to get those three Americans backstage?". So they did! The guy we had connections with is named John and he doesn't perform, he does backstage stuff. (Feel like he's a techie? We didn't get full details cuz he was in a rush.) But he brought us to the backstage pre-stage area and showed us how people zip around under the stage on these little tummy scooters, and we got to see all the props and masks and where the band was and all this and a techie scooted under the stage and then he brought us to the more backstage area where the performers warm up. They have the big set pieces that they practice on, like a static trapeze that two women were practicing on and the Russian swing and all these barbells and workout gear and the changing area and there were performers getting some physical therapy and massages and stuff before their next show. And then we went to the next step out which is like, half outside with the bathrooms and picnic tables and two performers smoking (tsk tsk..) and then we had to go 'cuz he had to help get the next show ready. BUT YEAH! As far as lights and rigging go, there was hinting that we might do a quick rigging basics kinda class one day (though I dunno if this is confirmed) but I'll definitely try and make as many contacts as I can. I can't wait to do silks.

AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! lucky sodding girl! that's so freakin' cool! yay for complicated incredible huge circus shows and getting to see some of how they work! dina & i went to see Ocircus last night -- totally random, i heard yesterday morning that they were performing in downtown manhattan as part of their tour, so i told dina and we both happened to be free. if was pretty cool... 9 people, a good little shows (they had this one amazing juggler guy who did about 5 different acts)/ they had a 3 person body contact juggling (Mr. S's Amazing Automatons) with a large golden contact ball, they had a ringmaster who went crazy, they USED the 'dead circus' song that is the background for the Circus of Horrors trailer DVD, their costumes were awesome bits and pieces, and their whole style was pretty polka dots similar to ours, though they were a little more sexually explicit, i would say (not as feminist ) they rehearsed for a couple of weeks after school finished, putting together this show, then headed east, stopping wherever someone had a connection. they were in boston the night before last, in ny last night, and headed to connecticut today to do workshops at a kids day camp there. it's basically my plan for next summer! and they travelled in a BIG PAINTED SCHOOLBUS that runs on VEGGIE FUEL and is CONVERTED so they can sleep in it. and they told us they have a hot tub in the back. OMG. so, basically, i'm incredibly happy someone is pulling it off, that it can be done... and jealous they did it first. but i want to fuse with them, play with them, be friends!!!!!

Mark is unbelievable 'cuz he can do everything. Alex (who I'm here with) is his best friend and has some great stories. (She went to high school with him and dated him for a while I guess.) When I saw OCircus, they were raising money to go do that trip. Alex and Erica said that they'd come out during October to come visit and play with CFU! YAY!

Ah, I stand corrected, having chatted with Alex and Erica. Mark's not touring, but it was probably this guy Andrew or a new guy. They got excited that you saw 'em!

Hey Sar! Today I'm doing silks! ("Tissu" here called.) Also get to do hula hoops. This week is our "play with everything to decide what you want to specialize in" week. (We have a show in three weeks so after this week we have to decide what we want to do, get good at it,and put a show together. No pressure.)

Where I learned staff they called it "tissu" too. Probably just depends on where they learned.
Congratulations! zOMG tell us what your specialty will be...

Today was my last day at NICA so we had our performance which went really well and we got lots of clapping from the little kids that were there for fun and whatnot. And after the performance... We did flying trapeze! We learned two ways to launch off (stepping v. jumping) and when I jumped the first time, I caught the bar and promptly lost my grip and landed FLAT on my face. WHOO! Didn't hurt too much, mostly just rug burn on my nose and knee, but James (teacher who was working the safety ropes) freaked out and felt so guilty for not catching me in time. No big deal really, though a) I think it's funny that I landed on my face and b) now my neck is stiff as. We should have video/pictures of the performances by next week. WHOO!

oh dear! victoria, i command you to come take a flying lesson at Tito Gaoana's rig in Boston, where there's ginormous net in addition to the safety lines (which i can be the one to hold for ya!) and i promise there won't be a repeat face-plant. it sounds like the bar is a lot higher here - more like 15 feet off the ground - i can't really picture how you fell off a trapeze onto a mat with just a rug burn?? but i bet when you fly here you'll kick ass and pick up tricks like nobody's business. the classes are Tues and Wed at 5:30 PM & Sat at 11 AM and 1:30 PM. They're $45.00, which is steep for a student, I know, but really a totally reasonable flying class price and SO WORTH IT! it's at the Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill. (and that invite goes for anyone within a 2-state radius of Boston.) and congrats on your performance we're all so proud of you, even though we were 5 billion miles away at the time and didn't get to see it. i know you were circus like whoah and majorly impressive. and i expect a screening of the performance in FPH MLH when school starts so we can all ooh and ahhh!
