Just sent out this email:
Dearest Circus Folk and soon-to-be's!
Welcome to all the newbies who have just signed up for the mailing list! And hi to all those returning! A quick background explanation of who we are and what we do:
We are jugglers, acrobats, contortionists, contact jugglers, trapeze artists, hula hoopers, aerialists, clowns, poi-ers, staff-ers, stilters, fire folk, dancers, musicians, gymnasts, people who are absolutely clueless but the girl at the HampFest table grinned at them for long enough, people who can't do forward rolls, people who want to learn anything and everything, people who like face paints, seamstresses/costume designers, lighting designers, performers, non-performers, adventurous Hamp students who are just trying something new with a bunch of people who like to play, and five college folk who have been conned into the whole mess!
The best part about Circus Folk Unite! is that it is a student collective, which means that students run it and are in it. If you want to learn something, there is bound to be someone at a playtime who wants to teach it to you and vice versa. You can come to as many playtimes as you'd like; they're just that--times to play! We meet on Fridays from 6-8 and Sundays from 2-4 in the South Lounge in the RCC. As the year goes on, Sundays will become our show development days. If you're into that sort of thing, you are more than welcome to perform, though it is by no means a necessity. (We will be having a full length fire show at Hampshire Halloween, a gig at Pearl street the following night, a show in November, and a spring show.) For more information on all that and everything else that we are and want to be, check out our message board! www.hampshirecircus.proboards50.com/
In short, the best way to figure out what Circus Folk Unite! is about is to come to our playtimes with an open mind. Don't be worried about knowing too much/nothing at all, that's what we do!
