yeah... It's time intensive though.
especially if there is copyrighted protection, obviously. Assuming there isn't I would use vstrip (a vob combiner to combine all the vob files) and after that I'd use flaskmpeg to encode all that video into mp4 format (the latest, most compressed mpeg encoding). Both of these utilities are free and tiny.
but you're probably best off ignoring all that and just using divx converter I hear that It's free and a whole heckuva a lot simpler----->http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/.

hmmm, not sure bout the copyright protection cause i recorded them. they were recorded on a UK camera and all that but I got the region drive code switched to USA at a place that made the DVD copies. I have a macbook....blah blah, we'll see if it works. Thank ya kindly acromisfit! yeah... It's time intensive though. especially if there is copyrighted protection, obviously. Im so confuzzled!
Ok so I downloaded DIVX for Mac and i get the converter free for 15 days. I put in my DVD and went to add files. Under DVD Video I opened the folder Video_TS and started dragging files but for some reason it won't work. The problem is I think that they are documents and its just trying to read HTML. I'm illiterate at these things can ya tell?

Ahhh, you have a mac! the current divx for mac version does not do VOBs. Sorry, I didn't know you had a mac. However, there are some mac solutions - MPEG Streamclip - www.squared5.com/ffmpegx - homepage.mac.com/major4/admittedly, I just found these by trolling around web forums with google. Both claim to be free and handle VOB files. ffmpegx looks like it has a much simpler interface, but might be shareware and limited somehow. The other one looks more complicated. I can vouch for neither myself as I haven't used them. Don't feel bad. It can be a real hassle to get the hang of it until you've ripped a few vids. I could upload them to youtube for you if you want to bring them to circus sometime. Too bad Molly has like 8 billion photos to post from the photo shoot still, she'd probably be a lot more helpful than I. Good luck! Hope that that's some small help at least... -Joe

You are magic.
I'll be up for a visit in a few weeks so we'll be in touch about the uploading and stuff. I think I can wait till then.

ffmpegx looks like it has a much simpler interface, but might be shareware and limited somehow. It looks like a GUI wrapper for ffmpeg, which is an encoder from the mplayer suite, under GPL. So it's not going to be shareware. Open source is your friend.
