Yaniris Fernandez, the Associate Dean of Faculty at Hampshire want us to perform at her son's 8th birthday party. His name is Alberto, and he likes dinosaurs, science, magic, and trains.
The birthday party will be in the backyard of their house, which is right behind the HESS gass station on Rt. 116, so we don't need to worry about transportation.
There'll probably be something like 15 kids there, most of them 7-8, a few around 5.
The party's from 3.30-6pm, but we'll just go for an hour: put on a small, trick-based show (she said she'd like fire too, as long as we bring an extinguisher) and then play some games with the kids and teach them a few tricks.
This is a paid gig, something between $15-25 each. I'm looking for 1-3 other interested people! Email me - tamj05@hampshire.edu

coolio, count me in. Also, I'm hoping to purchase our own fire extinguisher - we should have it at burns, and with phil and joe leaving, we can't rely on theirs anymore.

Um, yes. Yes, I would love to do a partner poi routine. And yes, I can dance, but only in the sense that everyone can dance, I'm not at all trained or anything.

okay then, it's the 3 of us for definite. can we plan on using playtime today (friday) to work out our plans and then meeting once more on saturday before heading over there? and sar, it's not far but it would be nice if you could give james & i a ride to the house also, i haven't given her a quote for how much we're charging and i really should. how does $60, $30 for each sound? it's a really small gig, but she seemed open, pricing-wise.

Yup, I can give rides.
Since we're doing both a show, and then instructions with the kids, I think it's safe to charge a bit more - more like $40 each, so $120. To give you an idea - Phil and Joe don't charge less than $300 a gig, and there's only two of them. $40 each is about what you could expect to make from one circle show in tips, so I think it's pretty fair.
And we should probably make some sock poi to bring over there to teach with. Maybe scarves for juggling (I can actually juggle with scarves). I have some rice, so I can pick up some tube socks and make a couple pairs to leave with the kiddos.

i think $120 is too high for this gig - for one, it's more like a favor to a dean, since we don't do birthday parties. also, we're not going to be doing a full joe & phil caliber show. let's see what we come up with tonight...
