Yeah, I know, but since so many of us have never done it before, we might not have any specific questions for you yet. I dunno, I just found it and thought it could be helpful.

street performance has been moved to SUNDAY!!!
we'll catch the 11.10am bus, hang out and perform for the college/community/church crowd on the Amherst Common and get the 1.10pm bus back, in time for 2pm circus practice.
street performance is entirely OPTIONAL. your priority should be coming to PRACTICE as much as humanly possible, so that we can move forward with show development!!!

More insight from the life of a steet performer:
It's all in the banter. Most of the show is spent doing simple tricks and lots of banter trying to pull the crowd in for the finally. SO! It's sad, but true, you will only really be able to demonstrate one main trick rather than show off all that you can do.

oop, and one more thing; here's a good joke:
How do you make your parents laugh? - tell them you want to be a street performer. How do you make your parents cry? - tell them that you're serious.
hee.

Howdy, For permit aquisition you need to talk to either the chamber of commerence or the police (each one will send you to the other). My understanding is that permits last for a year and need to be paid for by each person. They are somewhere in the vicinity of 20 - 40$ each. The year ends on new years so i suggest waiting till after then.
As for banners and such...great idea. The other thing is we also tend to get asked for a buisness card or some way to "book" us for things like birthday parties and other street preforming gigs. Just something to think about making.
Amherst is free to street preform whenever, as long as you are not on private property and do not obstruct traffic. (standing on the big islands with the stop lights tend to be pretty good) and sat nights and thursday evenings tend to be pretty good. Also some weekend mornings when there are lots of families with kids. --Meggie

So while messing about in NoHo this past weekend, we ran into a street musician who told us that the permit needed is a entertainers permit which is free and lasts a year. At least that is what he said about NoHo. I am not sure about how to get it and if there is any special requirements for people doing more then just sitting around playing music. As a side note I think I am actually a part of the Amherst chamber of commerce. I am actually on my way to a gathering to do some networking for the Kung fu school I'm a part of. I don't know what that means. Boo for being professional....
