Hey kids! So we were talking about starting up some street performing after break to advertise for the spring show (and just to let the community know about us). I know that I totally want to be part of that. Who else is interested? We should figure out some times that work and figure out what we want to do! I also think we should get a BIG piece of wood and paint a sign. Of course that would mean we'd need a name though...hmmm...

Umm... well, I was planning to start statuing in noho or amherst soon... But that's to afford ya know, food, and stuff. I wouldn't mind having a sign to show that I'm part of the troupe, but this is how I make a living, so... I will be doing it for tips - tips that I keep.

I think Noho is the place to start...we'd be more interesting than most of the beggars there. I'd be down for doing some staff and acro for that. I can't speak for Tom, but I'd guess that he'd enjoy bending nails and breaking wrenches and the like.

You need a permit for NoHo; just so you know.

how do we get a permit? talk to noho police? totally undeerstand about doing statuing on your own - but if we go as a group ever, wanna hula hoop or whatever with us, too? i also agree about the sign, but probably not wood - too heavy! we should do a banner, maybe with a light wood frame so it can freestanding. also, we have a name: circus folk unite! or the hampshire college circus - it's our name as a student group, for financial aid, etc. we should also do tshirts sometime... the cultural center has screenprinting stuff- we'd need to make our own stencils, buy our own paint and probably bring our own shirts too. but it would be fun, and we could personalise if we wanted...
as for times, what's everyone doing next sunday afternoon? after circus practice? maybe we should talk in the south lounge, warm-up, then head into town and mess around on amherst common (unless you need a permit there, too?)

city hall for permit.
What happened to that huge amount of dicussion ending in us being called Troupe Khircus...
I thought that was our name. you can put details (like hampshire college circus) as a subtitle. and if i have the time, i would love to come. Unfortunatly, i'm involved in like 3 Div III's right now, plus 4-classes...

I'd love to get in on the street performing! I'm not sure exactly what I could contribute, but I'm in!

i suggest we hit Amherst commons next Saturday morning. putting together routines might be tricky, as we're devoting a lot of time to the show right now. so we can do walkabout- type things, play on the commons some, or all spread out with hats and just take over the main street, every couple of blocks another few kids juggling or turning handstands or staging clowfights. what do we think?

This coming Saturday is bad for me, but other days I'd be up for it.
What about Wednesday for an hour before practice time? Just to see how it goes over?

one thing to consider is time... if there aren't going to be many poeple about, you may not get any responces, etc.

I'm down with that. I'd like to just take over the big lawn with maybe someone with a hat/tip jar in a central location?

we have that big empty water-bottle in our cabinet for a tip jar - somebody artsy wanna take over decorating that with our name (CIRCUS folk unite, hampshire college) by saturday? paints would probably do well. molly? dina? sarah c? (also, if it had a simple flag sticking up from it, it would attract attention to it - so that's an idea.)
i propose we eat breakfast, take the 11.15 bus to amherst, and show off until the 1.35 or 2.15 bus. that's at least a solid two hours.
if you wanna go, post here so's we can have a list of definites. i'm in!

I'm in too. Hopefully the snow will be gone by then....heh. I can also help decorate the tip jar if we have a good time for that (I have some nice acrylic paints that'll stick forever. We could also do crazy stuff with tissue papaer). I wonder if they'd let us do it during orientation leader training....probably not.
