I don't want to go into full detail here, but I was listening to some old traditional bluegrass as I was walking some street in some town in colorado. Part of what I'm interested in studying for my div 2 is the stories and narrative of bluegrass. (that is a very shortened version of my study plan).
Anyways, I was thinking it would be really cool to write a circus show that used the traditional stories of bluegrass, to tell a larger story (love and travelling would definitely be the larger story, but then have a sort of odyssey aspect of it where lots of little stories are told with in). The music would range between traditional bluegrass, spirituals, and old folk songs, and we'd have a live band but also as performers we would sing (we don't have to be good singers, its bluegrass!) and really have the show capture the atmosphere and context of the music as well as telling a story...
this is for wayyyy in the future.

I really like the idea...having a personal interest in music myself, and knowing that there are many legitimately talented musicians at Hampshire, I think it would be really cool to pursue the idea.
You know what's cool? You play the bass. I play the bass. That's cool.

Juliana - I didn't know that's what you were studying! You know, my dad and mom are really integrated into the old-time and bluegrass musical communities (though more old time than bluegrass). They used to help with the Frontier Folklife Festival in St. Louis. But as such they know a lot of the old, old musicians and have a lot of connections all over the country. I can give you my dad's e-mail if you'd like, because I know he'd be more than happy to share everything/one that he knows with you (if you aren't careful he'll talk your ear off, or offer you to play his banjo uke).
