Last night I had my second day of Aerial Silks.
Whee! It's so so much fun and an amazing workout and yay!
I've learned to climb and do a foot lock and two tricks: on archy back thing that I don't think has a name, and a side layover.
We need to get something set up with the gymnastics place near school when we get back so more of us can learn and I can continue. And because you only need one secure point to rig from, it's slightly possible that we would be able to get silks at hampshire!
teehee, I'm so happy right now. Muwah!

The RCC could easily have silks. Also, the boston silks folk have done rigs outside on trees. That is a possibility as well. Not really useful in winter, but if Bob is going to be a whiner about liability... we'll go around him.

the rcc is actually too high - there's too MUCH lee-way. but yeah. outside's our only bet (i think juliana had a single trap? he he) as you need insurance for anything over a certain height (6 ft - we may have been pushing it with stiltwalking).
insurance is a bitch, that's for sure. i'm working at a circus camp just outside boston, and even though we do flying trapeze, multiple trapeze, web, aerial ladder, and tightrope we were told we can't do minitramp because the camp doesn't have 'propulsion coverage'!!! insurance is nuts. we need to move to canada.
DEFINITELY we need to start doing stuff at hampshire gymnastics school. definitely.

ach, but if we do any sort of drops, trees are not stucturally sound. The silk worms, who I'm learning with, are building an outdoor portable rig, so maybe we could chat with them about that; it would be a fun project to build, and something that I could use for my div ii, so just a thought...

about insurance, clowns of the us inc. have "performers insurance" that for about 200 bucks a year you get covered for 1 million dollars per occurance.....it would involve talking to your school....but im fairly confident that you could persuade them to at least allow those insured to "perform" (like performing for eachother....or...uh...er... whats that other word for it...oh yeah, practice). the website is www.clownsoftheus.com/-Panic

I was chatting with silks folks and there's a way to set up a rig on a really high ceiling using cable and chain so that you can use a normal sized silk (24ish'). I'll try to get more details about how to properly rig it.
