I really recommend that everyone take some time this summer out of every day or every other day to condition. High-class circus performers are beefy. Even if you're more of a stay-in-one-place-don't-lift-much-weight-or-do-fucks performer, there's no harm in building up a little strength. I've started doing some small workouts now that I'm generally practicing staff a lot more.
Tailor workouts to your specific interests..for example, if you're working on handstands, no harm in doing some pushups or crunches before or after you practice. I know as a staffer I do lots and lots of arm circles for absurd lengths of time...it makes it easier to perform longer when the spinning time comes.
Tom obviously knows way more about this than I do, but I know there are lots of exercises you can do with your own body and nothing else, no weights or machines, that will tone muscle well.

Oh man, I got into such great shape working at the spoleto festival - 7 weeks of intense physical labour of lifting and moving roadcases, building/climbing scaffolding, hanging lights, building stages, etc.
Except now that the festival is over... blah. Yes, ma'am, i'll start the conditioning soon... ish...

Conditioning should inclued stretching too... If you don't stretch while strengtheing you muscles will get short and tight: no good, man.
