We're going to have an awesome faerie-themed show this coming spring 2010!

What will we be needing in the way of weaponry? If you want swords, or the like - particularly of a decorative (non-killin') nature - now is the time to start placing orders. I will post all requests to the Blacksmith's Guild list. And, nerdy men that we are, a few eyelash-bats and you'll have an armory fit for Faerie!
Pink paint optional.

Ohh, good thinking, David! We've got another meeting before break to figure that out.

well, we definitely want a wrought-iron arch. and maybe some fire-flowers.
i went to bindlestiff's open stage, which was a fun mix of mediocre entertainment. there was one woman who did a poi act with some GORGEOUS flag poi, that were absolutely enormous and shimmery and looked like huge flowers. if we could have even three people with poit that beatiful, all they need to do is wave them around for a minute or two and we have either a Spring (flowers) or Winter (snowflakes) act!

Wrought iron arch is NOT feasible. That would take a lot of time and money and space. Llemyllsownn doesn't really have means to make such a thing.
It could look wrought, however. But honestly, not worth the effort.

Oohhhh I love the iced branches, they're gorgeous.
Super good idea for the archway. Challenge being, as you mentioned strength. Yes, James is right that trying to forge/have an arch forged would be quite a challenge. However, if we want a set piece we can climb and play on (and I'm particularly keen on the idea since we've never had anything like that before) then we're gonna need something a bit sturdier. I was thinking we might be able to make one out of PVC pipe? It's not terribly expensive, it is quite sturdy, and we could easily spray paint it a matte black for a wrought iron looking thing. Could probably use electrical tape for hand grips.

Do not forget!
Bring your (unloved/un-emotionally sentimental) graduation gowns back to Hampshire as potential costume pieces! They may not/probably will not emerge intact, so only bring one that you have no more use for.

I think you might be overstating the climbability of pvc, as well. Yes, it can be stable enough to climb on, but if it's free standing it's probably going to not be safe, unless we anchor it in the ground or use guy lines. And then of course there's the whole pvc is ugly thing. Honestly, the arch as a piece of acrobatic equipment is much less feasible than just having it as a set piece. I know you guys think it's a cool idea, but there are a too many problems of execution. Let's remember to pick our battles here.
I have a hooded cloak.

Sweet! I was talking to David about how cool it'd be to have an arch and he agreed to forge it!
Obviously not wrought iron, but steel instead. His estimate right now is in the $30-40 range, which is totally affordable. Plus, the blacksmith's guild could pay for it too. He assured me that it would definitely be strong enough to climb on, since even the wimpiest concoction is really strong.
So that's pretty exciting! Acrobatic set pieces ftw.

I rather like the idea of the arch, so many acro possibilities; I say we go for it.
I also like the idea of the flag poi. Tara, I want to know more about that. Specifically, length/size/shape of flags, and the material they were made out of.
Also... I want to think long and hard about what the costume for the fairy king is going to look like and be, especially if he is going to be doing acro. S.a.t.R. has made me appreciate my short shorts and tank top more than anything else could.
Lastly, I think it might help people with act design if we all knew exactly where the show was being performed, and what that space looks like (like, post some pictures online). People can get inspired for set design, story design, or act design from that kind of simple information.
I'm also pretty and everyone should love me forever.

I feel like it's still a bit unclear what the fairy king will be doing, even though he's possibly our most developed character in the fairy show so far. The ideas I recall were spinning poi (which I am willing to do, and perfectly happy to create and rehearse a routine for), acro for stealing the princess (which I also feel comfortable with, though I imagine the scene shouldn't last too long if it occurs right in front of the prince (unless we're going to make it THAT obvious that he doesn't want to save the princess)).
Aside from that though, I'm willing to learn fire eating (which I think is pretty fae). Or... holla hooping, or... dart spinning, or... staff spinning, or... sexy dancing (except I already nose that one >:3).
The only things I wouldn't be excited to learn or use for the show are juggling and stilting, although both have some value as fairy skills and performance acts...
Keep in mind, I intend to cut my hair, so if that has anything to do with your enthusiasm as me playing the fairy king then you might reconsider. But, I mean, I'd be TOTALLY fabulous, and you all know it.
I so need to dress in drag for you guys, some day soon.

The show is to be at the Burly tree, the big oak near Greenwich. Pictures? We don't need no stinkin' pictures! Go for a walk.
